HW Creativity

For those born after 1981, would you rather stare a hieroglyphics in a cave or listen to your favorite artist? As an artist, you often are telling a story, focusing on a subject, or just self expressing. The way we create has drastically changed especially with recent digitalization. We can take our work and embed it into a universal file to distribute. In Fine Art, we can't make a Digital Oil on Canvas, but you can make that Oil on Canvas into a digital High-Res image and distribute the image. A lot of music is created digitally, with the ability to take a sympathy orchestra and impose each instrustment on a digital keyboard. This gives way to a musician having a similar access to most well funded like the Gustavo Dudamel analog LA Philharmonic. Easier access to an Artist work can create problems. In the instance with music, a digital recorded track is a composition of different sounds (instruments) that combine one line at a time. Therefore, each line can be a...

Creativity and New Media

Image
It is pretty easy to communicate with artist today via social media. Direct message allows us to enter an artist inbox, often the same inbox they communicates with people close to them. What does that mean for an upcoming artist? You can potentially skirt-skirt by those label execs and get the attention of labels in a new way, see my simulation below for how ThreePac can distribute his beats. Take it from the hustler above, the game has changed. It has gone electronic which leaves you no need to hustle in the streets, unless you're tekashi69 and we know how that turned out. But what about the format of music, what happened to these guys in Times Square? Were they replaced by the artist on MacDougal St pushing you to follow them on Apple Music? Humans have been changing the medium for quite some time, music as we know has been recorded on many new technologies and with each gave us a more compact format. The more compact the easier to distribute. Wide distribution shou...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

The phrase ‘Virtual World’ can often be associated with the likes of video games such as The Sims and Minecraft. The user makes an avatar which is according to  Chris Dede and Lisa Dawley is a “digital representation of oneself”. With that avatar you can interact with other avatars and functions of the ‘digital world’, a map or area that exist on a server.  Using simulations, a subset of Virtual Worlds, a user can interact in real-life environment with positive or negative feedback.  Newer technologies are allowing for cheaper simulations, especially in the field of science.  An app called Foldit simulated protein DNA and the user has to fold them to create a molecular block. The virtual interaction with the 3D protein allows for users to build and modify in a real-life environment. This could advance research by allowing for more science to participate however most participant aren’t scientist, they are just playing a game. It has been proven that virtual...

Blog about Twitter

Image
I am hear today to compare the way we discuss on Twitter, Blackboard, and in-class. Let's stat with Twitter, by saying it is a clean  platform, fairly easy to navigate new content, and having an informative newsfeed that relies on AI, but you can only use 280 characters. Now blackboard, you can discuss with others, and see post in a chronological order. Blackboard is more the old fashioned HTML forum oppose to the new mobile and web apps that make communicating seamless.  Twitter you can engage with others with @ and hashtags. Where as blackboard requires you to make a discussion in one place and you can't direct them towards people. To contact someone you need to send them a private message. Blackboard is like this blog I am writing on, where I can make a post and you can engage thereafter. But twitter allows you to direct the people you want to engage with, then engage with the people that engaged with you, then engage with the people wh...

Blog: Social networking sites

To start I'd like to give my brother kudos for still not having a social media account at 19. At the time I asked him not to make one is was to keep his integrity secure from unwanted photos and comments. The most efficient way to avoid having privacy issues...abstinence. That  wasn't for me and I signed my digital rights away at a young age, come to think was I allowed to click the terms and conditions? I am going to shelf this legal theory for now and dive into the workings of these companies and what separates them.  To think there was myspace before facebook, why was facebook more successful? Was it because you had a Harvard dropout named Mark Zuckerberg oppose to the grinning myspace Tom. Myspace was my first dive into HTML without even knowing it, ripping templates to make my own page of the things I liked in a style unique to me...there wasn't a homogeneous profile and this made things unique but weird. Enter your friends prof...

Blog Social networking

Building a brands identity is developing task in the realm of new media. Facebook can be used by General Electric to enhance investor relations to President Obamas campaign. In president Obama’s campaign, he used facebook to quickly act on shmear campaigns or to spread views. Facebook provides a platform for an entity to reach billions of views. We also see President Trump constantly using the twitter platform to connect to his constituents in realtime. Social networking provides real-time access to primary data. There is no disillusions of the facts by a network or publisher.  I n a case for amazon, they claimed to have a system error that pushed LGBTQ related novels down on there search ranking. People who noticed took action through social platforms such as twitter and blogs to spread the word with a goal of amazon fixing the system.  The internet is not completely secure. There are often vulnerabilities that can cause damage to both a host and its users. Soci...

BLOG: Blog v Wiki

Blogs and Wikis are new tools in media with a common goal to spread information. Like a publisher, a wiki or blog serves as a medium between the creator and the visitor. How can the two be distinguished? A simple way to distinguish the two is to recognize how the information was created.  In the case of a Wiki, one to many users can colloboarte to write, edit, and publish content. With the backing of references, uses can create a link between pages, centralizing the relevant information on a wiki page. To keep the integrity of the wiki, a moderator will often be assigned to act in a similar capacity to a newspaper editor.  But is providing all the factual information in the world on a silver platter good for society? Dr. Rorschach faced the negative depths when his psychological tests were posted on wikipedia. The argument is not against copyright as it had expired, it was the notion that patients can manipulate testing results .  Blogs on the other hand are made...
